# A Night in the Wild West: Camping in the Desert de Tabernas and Visiting Rio Bravo

Have you ever dreamed of being a cowboy or a cowgirl in the Wild West? Do you love the classic western movies starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson? If so, you might want to check out the Desert de Tabernas and the movie western town Rio Bravo in Spain, where you can experience a taste of the Old West in Europe.

The Desert de Tabernas is located in the province of Almería, about 30 kilometers north of the city of Almería. It is considered to be the only real desert on the European continent, with a dry and arid climate, and a stunning landscape of badlands, gullies, and canyons. The desert is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, such as xerophytic plants, hedgehogs, swifts, and sandgrouse.

The desert has been used as a filming location for many western movies, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, when Hollywood directors such as Sergio Leone, Sam Peckinpah, and Clint Eastwood came to shoot their iconic films here. Some of the most famous movies filmed in the desert include The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, and A Fistful of Dollars.

One of the movie sets that still remains in the desert is Rio Bravo, named after the 1959 film directed by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, and Angie Dickinson. The film tells the story of a small-town sheriff who enlists the help of a disabled man, a drunk, and a young gunfighter to hold off the brother of a local bad guy.

Rio Bravo is a replica of a typical western town, with a saloon, a jail, a bank, a hotel, a church, and a general store. The town is open to visitors, who can explore the buildings, watch live shows, and even dress up as cowboys and cowgirls. The town also has a museum, where you can see memorabilia from the movies, such as costumes, props, posters, and photos.

If you want to immerse yourself in the western atmosphere, you can also camp in the desert, either with your own camper or in one of the cabins or tents available for rent. Camping in the desert is a great way to enjoy the nature, the stars, and the silence. You can also go hiking, biking, horse riding, or off-road driving in the desert, and discover its hidden treasures.

Camping in the Desert de Tabernas and visiting Rio Bravo was a good memorable experiences. I felt like I was transported back in time, to a simpler and more adventurous era. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves western movies, nature, and adventure. It is a unique and unforgettable way to see a different side of Spain.
